2013 one surf fly recap…

I must apologize for the late recap but I ended up going out of town right after the OSF event and I just got back last night. My original post got corrupted some how so here we go…First off it was a beautiful day on the beach and the turnout was fantastic. We had close to sixty participants, not including spotters. Our non-profit of choice was the Healing Waters Chapter of Long Beach. We ended up raising $2670 in cash from our world class raffle which took place directly after our beach event at Marriotts in Fullerton. I want to personally thank Marriotts for hosting us and putting out a nice spread of chips, drinks and hot dogs for all who participated. Special thanks to all of our sponsors and friends that made donations to this years’ raffle and helped Healing Waters continue to do great work. Thanks to all of our spotters who did a great job recording the day’s catch and releases, without our spotters this whole thing can not work and we appreciated their enthusiasm and dedication each year. There were a total of 129 fish caught! 2.3 average per angler. Notable belly snags: four corbina ranging from 16 inches to 19 inches, one 28 inch halibut, and one 24 inch shovel nose guitar fish. Fair-hooked, there were two yellowfin croaker, five walleye perch, one 17 nch corbina, one 22.5 halibut, one 10 inch shovelnose and 119 barred surf perch to 13 inches.

We will try to all meet up at the shop after the OSF beach event around 10am for the trophy presentation, Healing Waters presentation, and OSF raffle!

The good folks at Flymen Fishing Company continue to come up with really cool products. Here is the new line of large “Predator” Living Eyes. These eyes are 5/8′ inch / 15.0 mm in size which will be awesome on big squid flies. They come in a nice selection of colors too. These eyes should hit your local fly shops just around March 12th. They will be great on squids and  large baitfish style flies. Taking orders for NEW OSF Dockweiler Long Sleeve Tee Shirts!!!

We are getting close to the next OSF5 event. Pre-order your shirt now!

We will have the shirts available on the morning of the event (April 21st, Dockweiler State Beach) or immediately after at the Fisherman’s Spot Fly Shop raffle/award ceremony!  They will be navy blue, ALL LONG SLEEVE, 50/50 cotton poly, Fruit of the Loom. The logos will appear white on the front and back.


SIZES/COSTS

  • Sizes (SM to XL) are $18 each.
  • Sizes (XXL) are $20 each.
  • Size (XXXL) are $22 each.
  • I will also take kid sizes and get back to you on cost.
