osf5 dockweiler state beach recap!

April 23, 2012

One Surf Fly 5 – Dockweiler LineUp courtesy of Kristina Kaufman and Jorge Salas!

well the overcast morning and price of gas didn’t seem to discourage a nice turnout for our fifth one surf fly, held on dockweiler state beach in the shadows of los angeles airport. i will be adding more pics and stats to this report once i get the totals in for the fish counts. shane ran off and went fishing with the score cards, LOL! in the mean time i do have the winners noted and will be adding a photo gallery very soon. We would like to thank the fisherman’s spot for being the host fly shop and throwing in a fifty dollar gift card to our fantastic raffle. this years raffle earned $2800 for a wonderful cause. we all supported casting for recovery which helps breast cancer victims through fly fishing. marguerite duncan-abrams from the local los angeles chapter gave a brief presentation about the organization and was present to receive the donation. I want to personally thank all our sponsors: Abel, Buffs, Ross, Orvis, Redington, Fish Skull, Nightwatch Coffee and Olson Visual for making the yearly pledge and supporting us so we can all do great things for the industry and non-profits we support! I would also like to thank all the spotters and volunteers, who take a back seat to help keep the beach safe and record all the catches. a special thanks to everyone who donated to our awesome raffle, we couldn’t have raised the money and support without you and I am sure casting for recovery is very grateful for your kind generosity. we are all very lucky to have a great fraternity of saltwater fly anglers willing to assemble together for one day each year to celebrate our passion and in turn help some of us who need a helping hand. let’s keep this thing rocking, it can only get better! take a kid fishing, they are our future…
cheers…more pics to come!
